Family First, Self is Important.

April 10 2007
I saw this slogan last week in a comic strip called "Non Sequitur." A man climbs to the top of a mountain to ask a guru what the secret to happiness is, and he is told,
"Family First, Self is Important."
To this the man exclaims ... "I came all the way up here to talk to a hairy Dr. Phil!"

We can make light of ancient truths but truths they remain.

Our society emphasizes personal performance and personal power to the extent that we often fail to recognize that we are only as strong as the soil into which our roots are planted.

When you peel away the layers of our personal network and you ultimately come to the layer called family.

Who will care about you because you are you? Who will you help because you know that their strength is your strength? Whether these people are related to you by blood or by circumstance, these people are your family. The strength of these people; the strength of your relationship with these people; and their relationships with each other, will ultimately determine your strength.
