Some tips on finding your way in life.October 4 2007
| | There was one period in my life where I felt that I was losing myself. It came around the time of my 40th birthday ... just before I bought "my truck!"
My former wife and I were struggling with trying to take different paths in our lives. She seemed to know where she was going, and all I knew was that I didn't want to go there. But I wasn't really sure where I did want to go.
What I did was was to boil my core requirements down to three points, which follow.- I wanted some part of my life to be established in a rural environment;
- I wanted to spend my time with people who liked me;
- I wanted to maintain a strong relationship with my children.
That was it, those were my non-negitables. They also allowed me to identify paths that were unacceptable to me, so that they could be eliminated fast. That allowed me to focus my time on people and projects that could at least potentially satisfy my core needs.
The pursuit of these goals has led me on some grand adventures, but I have not regretted a single moment. Although I did not find everything that I was looking for, I did find "me", which in the end that is the most important thing that we need to find in our lives.
